We don’t often venture down to south London to see what’s on offer in terms of restaurants and clubs, so when we were invited down to Disco Picnic in Peckham we were pretty excited for a totally new experience. Disco picnic has taken the cool, shabby chic vibe of a house party and turned it into a great night out. For those of you looking for an unpretentious venue, good music and great food then disco picnic may be right up your street.
Set up in safe house 1 and 2, pretty much a stones throw away from Peckham Rye station, the venue has a casual appearance at a first glance. If you look a bit closer you’ll see the swirling disco lights, hear the resident DJ pumping out chilled house music and might even smell the delicious Smokey Tails BBQ in the air. The house is split over two floors, both decked with bars serving a range of awesome cocktails. One our favourites had to be ‘dark and stormy’, a nice rum and ginger baser cocktail that went down a little too easy (always a good sign).
There’s plenty to see tucked away in the little corners of the venue; we came across pop up vintage boutique, ‘the club’, that had a treasure trove of vintage gems set up in an adorable bedroom layout. We perused the selection of jackets, jewellery and sunnies (amongst a whole host of other cool items) and had to tear ourselves away before our wallets started to suffer.
The Disco Picnic venue is a creatively set up hangout space where you can chill out and listen to some great music. If you’re the type who gets hungry often (like we most certainly are) then the Smokey Tails takeover won’t disappoint either. With awesome barbecue buns, it’s the perfect snack to wash down with a cocktail or two. Overall it was a unique and quirky experience that’s definitely up there in terms of the house parties of norm that we’ve been to. We loved the idea of recreating that chilled out vibe for a pop up event and we’d definitely recommend paying a visit if you’re looking for something new!
