It’s no secret that we’ve devotedly followed the development of Victoria Beckham’s fashion career since the conception of her label in 2008 all the way to her first store opening on Dover Street at the end of 2014. Fast forward to her Autumn/Winter ready to wear collection at New York Fashion Week and we were definitely not disappointed. She’s continually surprised the fashion elite with her eye for classic design and her New York Fashion Week Fall show was one of the most anticipated of the season!
Her first few collections put the brand on the map due to her take on the dress – the combination of midi lengths with figure hugging cuts – cinched in at the waist with those famous Grosgrain ribbon belts produced something that was elegant yet still flirty. This most recent autumn winter collection returns to the roots of the dress but of course with more of an up to date finish. The dresses in the collection now have more of a structured look, with material draping around the waist rather than cinching. The coats are also more structured – almost like armour – and have been designed in classic grey and taupe (a girl after our own monochrome hearts it seems).
We especially loved the balloon sleeved jumpers paired with more figure hugging skirts – the contrast of the airy knits and slinkier midi skirts work well and it’s something we’ve loved recreating for ourselves. In fact Victoria Beckham was also sporting similar ensemble herself at the show, consisting of a long sleeved navy knit and long skirt, paired with simple black heels. Ever the copycats we are (aren’t we all when it comes to fashion?!) we’ve recreated the look with a Zara V-back jumper and Miss Guided suede feel pencil skirt. We’ve dressed down the look a little with sneakers (something heel and brogue lover, Victoria Beckham, would probably turn her nose at) but we feel that the look is versatile enough to wear every day with comfortable shoes. Of course, there’s always the option of carrying around a pair of simple heels and taking the outfit from day to night in a flash.
