For those of you who don’t know us too well here are a couple of facts for you; we love reading (or listening to audiobooks in this day and age), we binge watch TV series, we love good movies, we’re addicted to coffee and are constantly trying new restaurants. We know that the blog is mostly a hub of all things fashion and photography, but we thought it would be great to share a few of the other things that we’re liking at the moment. Now we won’t lie, this is very much a random mish-mash of favourites, but we’re hoping that you may be inspired to check some of these things out! We promise, you won’t regret it.
Broadchurch is back for a second season which started last week with a new twist and even more secrets and lies! We don’t want to give too much away, but if you didn’t catch the first season we recommend that you do that before watching this season; it’s full of twists and turns and will keep you guessing until the end. The nerds in us would also like to stress that it is beautifully shot (although the music can be a little annoying and repetitive in places) and brilliantly acted. No, really, Peep Show legend Olivia Colman is genuinely amazing in this. We are currently batch producing large quantities of ‘I heart Olivia Colman’ t-shirts ready for when the wider world wakes up to this fact.
The mystery theme continues with this one. Ok, so it’s been kicking around for a while and we must admit we’re a little slow on the uptake (we like to tell ourselves we waited this long before listening so we could binge listen to the whole thing) but we both started listening to this 12-part podcast this week and it’s official, we are hooked. If, like us, you’ve been in hibernation for the last few months, Serial is a podcast examining the case surrounding the real-life murder of an American high school student and her ex-boyfriend, who was given a life sentence for the crime. We don’t really think there’s much else to say except – trust us – you need to listen to this podcast. Although be prepared to start shhh-ing those
poor idiotic souls brave stupid enough to talk while you’re listening.
Some of you will know that we’re massive fans of Amy Poehler and Tina Fey (of Golden Globes-hosting fame). For those of you who are less familiar with them, we recommend you check out their work; Tina Fey is responsible for one of the greatest films of our time (that’s Mean Girls, by the way) and Amy Poehler is the star of our favourite soon-to-end sitcom, Parks and Recreation. The news that Amy (oh yeah, cos we’re on first name terms) was bringing a book out was met with giddy dancing and mild hysteria on our part. It’s a funny, sweet book and full of fun, female empowerment type-stuff (which we think is pretty cool).
For those of you who aren’t absolute coffee fiends like we are, an Aeropress is a relatively new contraption for making coffee (like we need another one to fuel our drug habit – wait of course we do). As the name would possibly suggest it uses air pressure and fine filter paper to produce a silky smooth flavour filled coffee, far superior to anything made from a Fresh Press or Cafetiere. It’s also stupidly simple to use and clean afterwards which bodes well for two lazy so and so’s. We realise we sound like a bit of a walking advert at the moment but if you love coffee then this is definitely worth a try – plus we can’t deny how fun it is to plunge the top down.
Sony RX-100 II
We’d like to welcome you to the new addition to our photography equipment family here at Patches and Flash, the Sony RX-100 Mark II. The reviews for the RX-100 range – particularly the Mark II and III – are nothing less than complementary, with many photographers claiming that it (quite frankly) blows other compact cameras on the market out of the water. We can’t help but agree. With it’s large 1″ sensor, high image quality, relatively easy functionality and great low light performance (just to name a few of it’s stand out features), it has thoroughly impressed us with it’s performance. The fact that it’s sleek in terms of design and oh-so-tiny also doesn’t hurt, especially in terms of taking it out and about for blogging. We can safely say that it’s made taking product shots for the blog a total breeze – look forward to a complete review soon!
