Outfit | Casual Trousers and Dressy Joggers

The Inspiration:

Dressy Joggers

I should admit that I hardly ever dress down too much when I’m outside my house. To me there’s something about wearing joggers or a hoodie (or both) that makes me feel way too comfortable in the outside world. Plus who am I kidding, I can’t pull it off and actually look cool like some people can, I just look like a giant marshmallow (think Michelin man, or recurring chubby ghost from ghostbusters).

While I like the fact that I’ve finally established some kind of personal style which is more on the smart side (I like to fool myself that I’ve grown up), I do envy those who can get away with dressing more comfortably. So when the trend of slouchy casual trousers/joggers surfaced I was all over it. In fact one of my personal style icons Victoria Beckham (she’s awesome, don’t judge me) featured really nice casual trousers and culottes on the runway at London Fashion Week.

The key to finding the right fit is to make sure that there isn’t too much sagging (sorry, I couldn’t find a better word) material when worn, which could lead to an MC Hammer type situation –  unless you’re likely to be in an impromptu dance battle at some point, in which case it could work in your favour. So far I’ve found that Zara do some great ones which are reasonably good quality. H&M also have quite a few styles with varying casual-ness (is that a word?) at a pretty good price point.

I personally love the idea of dressing up a pair of casual trousers or dressy joggers with a shirt and heels (see above); the perfect contrast between casual and smart that makes you look like you’ve just rolled out of bed, thrown something on and still managed to look awesome. Saying that I apologise if this lends itself to a few eventual instagram selfies with the caption ‘I woke up like this’ (or an equally empowering Beyonce lyric) – we’ve all been there. Likewise, dressing them down with a white simple T shirt and trainers works just as well.

So – here’s to dressing like gangsters and looking good  *brushes imaginary dust of the shoulders – is aware of how lame that actually look – hangs head in shame*
