Barcelona Style Diaries: Day 1

If you’ve been following us on Instagram (@patchesandflash – if you haven’t then where on earth have you been?! You’ve missed so many pictures of burgers!) then you’ll know that we’ve just got back from Barcelona! It was a truly beautiful city with a rich culture and really stunning architecture. Also housing some of the best Spanish born brands such as Zara, Mango and Desigual; it was a people-watching/style searching haven! Apart from lying on the beach and mingling with the well dressed locals, we did find time to document the trip a little. So we present to you our Barcelona Style Diaries Mini Series documenting outfits worn as well as a few of the sights!

Day 1: La Sagrada Familia

We started off the day admiring the city street from our balcony (which we have to say was EXACTLY how we imagined it to be).

Temperatures were in the mid 20’s lending itself perfectly to a breezy maxi dress. This one is from H&M’s concious collection so the fabric is great quality and the colour is rich and vibrant. Being quite shrimpy, I like the fact that it’s not a full length maxi dress which can tend to make short people look even shorter (and usually leads to me tripping and falling on my face a few times). *Tip* I actually bought this a few sizes up for a more relaxed fit!

The first and most anticipated attraction for us was La Sagrada Familia , a cathedral built in the 1800’s (although still incomplete) featuring the incredibly intricate style of Antoni Gaudi. We felt compelled to take a few snaps of the ceiling and stained glass windows within the architectural masterpiece. Gaudi was heavily influenced by nature and this was very apparent in the structure of the building. He believed that ‘there are no straight lines in nature’ and this was reflected in the shape and build of the cathedral as well as the minute detail found in every corner. We were especially intrigued by the colourful stained glass windows. The colours and shapes included have heavily influenced the fashion world and have inspired us to create something of our own (which we will share very soon so keep an eye out!).

Then it was time for a quick outfit change to this black airy chiffon top and faux white leather skirt from Zara (I know, I have a problem).

We rounded off the day with a relaxing lounging session at the beach and a few cocktails. An all round enjoyable end to our first day!
